These
pictures were sent in by Fran Hansen. They were taken off of San Diego in
1953.
Barney
Elletson, served aboard the USS Waldron DD-699 from 1953 to 1955. This is what
he told me, "I have a snapshot of the John W. Weeks taken on the fantail of
the Waldron. Our two ships are side by side in a high speed run. I
took the picture with a brownie box camera. I have carried it in my wallet
since 1955. I took the it to a camera shop and had it enlarged to a
3X5. It is a little grainy, but it would look nice on your web site.
Every time I would meet an ex sailor, I would show the picture of our sister
ship. We could always tell where the Weeks was because she had a stick
mast. The Ault, Haynsworth, and the Waldron had a tripod mast."
Walter
Olker, uncle David Brown, served aboard the Weeks from 1961-1965. This is
what he told me, "I've
followed the Weeks ever since I was a kid and he was on it, even though I'm a
former Army Officer."
Bruce Weaver II sent the following
photo: My dad (Bruce Weaver 1947 - 1948) said it was taken as the crew left
Guantanamo Bay and was supposed to be for a publication called “Our Navy.” He
places the time around 1947. When I enlarge it, he can easily find himself. This
was scanned for e-mail to keep the file size down.
